Welcome to the Destiny of Legends! This Earthdawn campaign will be start in the Jewel of the South, the Merchant City of Travar. The history of Travar is nearly as old as The Eternal Library of Thera, nearly a century after the studies began on the Books of Harrow. For centuries the area ws home to nomadic tribes that fought for territory, but a group of powerful Adepts founded the city with the construction of the five towers that still stand today. Soon the tribes gathered there as a place to trade, no longer to war against one another. As Thera grew in power and trade became more important to the fledgling kingdoms and city states of Barsaive than petty wars, Travar's location along important trade routes led to it's growth and prosperity. The surrounding lands were fertile ground, and the abundance of natural wealth soon found it's way through Travar to lands across Barsaive. Travar weathered the Scourge through the construction of a mystical dome called the Storm Shield. One of the major changes that happened to the city was the creation of the Founding Tournament. The mysterious Body of Five, the group of Adepts credited with the creation of the Citadel and members of the mystical order responsible for the founding of Travar, saw how greedy Magistrates and their Theran and Throalic allies almost destroyed the Citadel from within, and created the Founding as a new means to choose the leadership of the city. If the wealthy wanted to rule so badly, they would have to pay for the opportunity. Since the ending of the Scourge, the practice still occurs, as it draws Adepts from across Barsaive to take part of the Tournament and receive wealthy patronage. Travar gets an influx of Adepts that can defend Travar and the inhabitants are entertained by the spectacle. Magistrates spend small fortunes to achieve the status, but can quickly recoup the investment once in power. For all of the luster of this gleaming jewel, there are signs that trouble lies on the horizon. The Badlands, the cursed remnants of the once fertile lands to the west, is spreading towards city closer every year. The specter of slavery and Theran influence still persists, and followers of Erendis and Lochost clash in the streets. Residents of the city are rumored to have similar dreams of impending disaster. Amidst all of that, a growing feeling of unrest ripples throughout the city as some view sees the current system as a house of cards built on graft and nepotism.  Amidst all of this, a group of Adepts' destinies have become entwined together weave legends of their own.
